True Confessions
Cyber Aggression and Arguing
Chapter 12, of Sherry Turkle's "Alone Together," examines online communication and the difference between real-time anger between friends and posting confessions through cyberspace.
Flaming Vs. Venting
A flaming conversion happens when two friends or family members yell it out over something they disagree on. Solving things by yelling is not new. We do it face-to-face and on the telephone. A new medium for releasing our feelings is venting over the Internet. Social websites like facebook, twitter and the ever evolving confession sites are places that let us vent online. Flaming can accrue online when a reply by text or email starts a chain of angry messages between the two senders.
We as a human society have indulged in the Internet and are abusing its uses. A speaker from Wall Street Journal explains why we approach these Internet platforms with a high image of ourselves, leaving us to believe we can broadcast whatever we want. Typing online for many seems like word processing document on their individual computer where nobody sees what anything. However, we are announcing these typed statements to millions online.

Confession Websites
When we feel guilty about our actions, we feel the need to keep it a secret from loved ones and family. Holding it as a secret for a long time makes us feel worse and we need a place to vent online. Confession websites like PostSecret, is helping millions release their guilt online with a connection to a community of anonymous listeners. These confessional site users are there to deal with their guilt while also commenting to others with compassionate support.
These websites are a therapeutic tool for those who have a lot on their plate. Having posted something you don't want a loved one to know or something more personal, that is a deep secret, leaves someone temporarily relieved of guilt. These types of sites do not replace the pressure of having to confess your worries to your loved ones or family. Talking about your feelings and worries online to compassionate people might help make you less nervous about approaching that loved one and delivering the news after reading feedback from others. These interactions with others who confess over these sites are not a true social connection. It is important to see the difference between a group of anonymous online individuals or a cyber-community and your real group of friends offline. Connecting with a cyberspace community on confession webpages is a communication format that is less secure and intimate than talking face-face with your loved ones. When confessing online, you don't know if the anonymous people will keep that secret online, making the information not a secret anymore.
